Neil is not only recognized by his fans but the entire NASCAR family. He was voted in to the top 50 NASCAR drivers. During his career Neil ran 362 Cup races – winning 18 races, 20 Poles, 83 top 5’s, and 156 top 10’s. What makes Neil’s stats even more remarkable is the fact he only ran a full season 5 times. Neil holds the distinction of being the winner of the first ever NASCAR race held outside of North America when he won the 1988 Goodyear NASCAR 500 at the Calder Park Thunderdome in Melbourne, Australia. Neil was a National Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame inductee (1997) and International Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee (2001) He was also inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2012. With all of Neil’s accomplishments, sadly he is still not in the NASCAR HOF … I find this not only unbelievable but also a stain on NASCAR itself.
